Looks Matter, but So Does Safety. Luckily, the Ford Mustang Mach-E Has Both

The 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E has a lot going for it: unparalleled style, approachable price, the efficiency that goes with being an all- electric vehicle (EV) and…a top safety rating.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), an industry group that performs rigorous crash tests and evaluations on other safety equipment, has given the Ford Mustang Mach-E it’s highest safety endorsement, Top Safety Pick+ in the Midsized SUV category.

Top Safety Pick+ is not an easy award to get. The IIHS has been doing its tests since 1995 and has consistently raised the standards, requiring manufacturers to design and build safer vehicles in order to get the respected awards. This year was no different, so that while 71 vehicles got safety awards last year by this time, only 48 have had success this year. 

“We’re once again challenging automakers to make their new models even safer than those they were building a year ago,” IIHS President David Harkey said. “Every vehicle that earns a 2025 award offers a high level of safety in both the front seat and the second row.”

There are two classifications, Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+. Winning a Top Safety Pick+ requires that a vehicle must receive:

• A Good rating on the moderate overlap front crash test
• A Good rating in the small overlap front test
• A Good rating in the updated side test (tougher this year!)
• An Acceptable or good on standard headlights
• An Acceptable or good in pedestrian front crash pedestrian test

At just a notch below, the Top Safety Pick designation requires just an Acceptable rating on the moderate overlap front crash test. 

The 2025 Mach-E is already a standout in the electric vehicle field. With four different trim levels, and a range of up to 320 miles on a charge, the Mach-E is setting the standard for domestic midsized crossovers.
