Ford Keeps It Green with Two Pickup Choices

April 15th, 2024 by

It’s no secret that as useful as a pickup truck can be, they aren’t so great on fuel consumption. It’s hard to think of pickup trucks as “Green” choices, right? Wrong. Two Ford pickup trucks, the 2024 Ford Maverick compact pickup and the 2024 Ford Ranger mid-size pickup are on a recently offered list of “Greener” vehicles.

The list is from GreenerCars.org, and it was compiled using ratings from the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE).  And while it’s true that no pickup is considered a “Greenest” vehicle, we at Schomp Ford are pretty excited that the Maverick and Ranger are considered among the more environmentally conscious choices.

Ford Maverick Hybrid

The 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid is a Gas Hybrid vehicle. The experts at Car and Driver has a great explanation of the different types of hybrid vehicles. C&D actually listed the Ford Maverick Hybrid among its “Best Hybrid Vehicles of 2024 and 2025.” It also is among C&D’s “10Best Trucks and SUVs” and “Editors’ Choice” picks.

The 2.5-liter hybrid powertrain is available on all versions of the 2024 Maverick. It is paired with an automatic continuously variable transmission. Equipped with the hybrid, the Maverick has a starting MSRP of just under $25,000 and earned a Green Score of 55. Annual fuel consumption, based on 15,000 miles driven, is $1,297. Fuel economy, according to the EPA, is 42 mpg city/ 33 highway for a combined 37 mpg. Pretty. Darn. Good.

The Maverick’s standard maximum payload is 1,500 lbs., and there’s an available 4,000 lb. tow package. It comes with Sync®3 voice activation technology, FordPass Connect app that offers access to several remote features, and outstanding safety features with Ford Co-Pilot360®.

Ford Ranger

By contrast, the 2024 Ford Ranger is an all-gas midsize pickup truck that has a Green Score of 43, a starting MSRP of $32,670 and projected annual fuel costs of $1,968. Compare that to some of the “Meanest” trucks, according to the ACEEE, which have annual fuel costs of more than $3,000!

The Ranger has an updated exterior, including a new grille, headlamps, shoulders and hood. It comes with seating for five adults and 7,500 lbs. available towing capacity.  You can get Sync® 4A voice activated technology, 360-degree cameras, Active Park Assist 2.0, Ford Trail Control™ and make use of a choice of five driving modes that will adeptly handle every possible driving situation.

We know size matters, so whether you go with the compact Maverick Hybrid or the beefy midsize Ranger, you will know that you’ve made a pretty Green choice.
